Dakota Fanning & Wizard of Oz sequel? Yep, reports have surfaced that the teen will be starring in the new version of the 1939 classic. Read more about the story plus photos and video below.
Dakota Fanning reportedly has been tapped to play the 15-year-old granddaughter of Dorothy, in the Warner Brothers remake of the classic film, Wizard of Oz, which starred Judy Garland as Dorothy.
The film will reportedly take place in the present, and will chronicle Fanning’s adventures as the granddaughter of Dorothy Gale.
Warner Bros. has described the sequel as “darker and more action-packed” than the original. Hmmm. It’s hard for me to imagine the Wizard of Oz as “darker”, but if anyone can pull off slipping on those ruby slippers in a “darker” role, Dakota Fanning is a wise choice.
According to the Daily Express, filming for the sequel could begin as early as next year, reportedly in the UK. Todd McFarlane, co-producer of the film, said:
“You’ve still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she’s much closer to the Ripley character from Alien [Sigourney Weaver] than a helpless singing girl.”
The Wizard of Oz celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. What do you think of Dakota Fanning & Wizard of Oz sequel? Would this be a film that you would want to see? Leave me your thoughts in the comment section, plus see photos and video below.

Regarding Dakota Fanning, this could be a pretty good role for her, she has all the skills to do something like this. Let’s just hope the people bhind the camera do their part.

Dakota Fanning is a very talented actress. I believe she will have a great carreer like former child star Jodie Foster.
I am sure her performance will be great in a new or remake of the Wizzard of Oz!!!

The Wizard of Oz my favorite movie of all time. I saw it as a kid and was totally carried away. Garland, Bolger, Haley, Lahr are icons in my memory.
I am sure no updated filming will change that but I will enjoy attending the new version. I will probably wait for the cheap seats.
